The leader of the "Mundësia" Party, Agron Shehaj, has changed his stance regarding the candidate for the Tirana mayoralty. After attempts to impose a name proposed by his political force, Shehaj finally agreed to support the candidate proposed by Sali Berisha, actor Florian Binaj.
"We will support the non-political candidate and we will support Florian Binaj as if we had proposed him ourselves. Support for him will be in any form that he considers reasonable and necessary," Shehaj declared.
This new stance comes just a day after the leader of "Mundësia" criticized the Democratic Party, emphasizing that it was not consulted on the announced name and therefore would not support Binaj. But it seems that political pressure and the lack of alternatives have forced Shehaj to retract his statements from the night before.
Faced with the choice between running as his own candidate or withdrawing from the race, Shehaj chose the second path, to avoid a political cost that could weigh on him and his party.
However, this move seems to have taught him an important political lesson. First, in politics, moves must be thought through to the end so as not to come off as a bluff. And second, negotiations with Sali Berisha do not work on conditions, either you are part of his decisions, or you come out as an opponent and challenge him.
