Agron Shehaj announced this evening that he will support candidate Florian Binaj for the Tirana Municipality elections, a day after declaring that he would not support him. In an interview on the show "Opinion", Shehaj stated that the DP "has betrayed them" after, during discussions at the table, the Mundësia Party had proposed Ermal Hasime as a candidate, while the DP decided to support Florian Binaj.
"We have not talked about any names. We have only talked about the principle. We have made a proposal that fortunately has been accepted by the DP. We are proud of this, because thanks to our proposal it was seen as a solution because there was enthusiasm for both the proposal and the names. We were forced to come up with names and we mentioned Ermal at the table, we are proud of this. Unfortunately, this whole process ended in the worst possible way, they betrayed us. It is the first time that this kind of dialogue has happened," said Shehaj.
However, he stressed that despite this problem with the DP, the Opportunity Party will fully support Florian Binaj, as if he had been proposed by them themselves, a statement that contradicts what he stated the day before, when he said he would not support him.
"We will support the non-political candidate and we will support Florian Binaj as if we had proposed him. Support for Binaj is in all forms that he sees as reasonable and necessary. We will support him as if it were our proposal," Shehaj added.
Meanwhile, Ermal Hasimja, the candidate Shehaj preferred, has announced his withdrawal from the race, publicly declaring his support for Florian Binaj.
"Today it is clear that the race has no meaning for me. Now that Florian Binaj has the support of political parties, it would not be appropriate for me to continue running as an independent. Of course, one candidate will be elected, and the other candidates have no say after that. I support Binaj with great pleasure," Hasimja declared.
He added that support for Binaj will not be merely symbolic, but will also include active engagement during the electoral campaign.
