Erion Veliaj has been in prison for 7 months now, the municipality of Tirana continues to be run by deputy mayors. From the blue seat, the democratic deputy mayor of the municipal council, Dorian Teliti, called for early elections for the Municipality of Tirana.
"The Democratic Party considers this situation unacceptable and reminds citizens and institutions that governance without a vote is usurpation, not democracy. Therefore, we reiterate our clear demand: the only solution to restore normality and democratic functioning in the Municipality of Tirana is to hold early, free elections. Without free elections, there is no solution!"
Referring to the figures spent by the municipality in the first 7 months of the year, Teliti accused that the money has gone to luxury and not to the problems of citizens.
According to him, this situation can only be resolved with early elections in Tirana. "Tirana is today the clearest reflection of a degraded local government, captured by narrow political interests, where representation has been replaced by appointment, and transparency by arrogance. According to the official data of the municipality itself for the first 7 months of 2025, a flagrant misuse of citizens' taxes is observed. 13 million euros more have been spent on salaries and operating expenses, to keep a bloated and politically captured administration afloat.
Meanwhile, public investments, the core of any local government that functions in the service of the community, have been completely neglected. In this 7-month period, only 35 million euros of investments have been realized, which constitute only 20% of the planning for the January-July period, leaving citizens without infrastructure, without services and without development.
The Democratic Party considers this situation unacceptable and reminds citizens and institutions that governing without a vote is usurpation, not democracy.
"Therefore, we reiterate our clear request: the only solution to restore normality and democratic functioning in the Municipality of Tirana is to hold early elections," said Teliti.
