A day after the Supreme Court rejected the request for his release, former President Ilir Meta has launched another legal effort, this time at the Special Court of Appeals. He is seeking the annulment of the security measure of "prison arrest", imposed on him for more than a year.
Meta had previously asked the Supreme Court to overturn the decisions of two lower courts, which had refused his release, but this court also decided to keep him in prison.
Meanwhile, the criminal case against Meta and several other co-defendants is in the preliminary examination phase at the Special Court. He is accused of "corruption", "abuse of office" and "concealment or failure to declare assets".
