International relations expert Andi Hoxhaj has commented on the military parade held in China yesterday, which included some of the world's most powerful leaders, including Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In an interview with the media, During a live interview in the News24 studio, Hoxhaj stressed that this event was an opportunity for leaders to reaffirm their commitment to China's ambitions and its influence on the global stage.
According to Hoxhaj, Chinese President Xi has made clear his ambitions to be a lifelong leader. “Xi has changed China’s constitution, bringing the country closer to his doctrine, and through this, he has emphasized his vision of a China that not only wants to be an economic superpower, but also a military superpower,” Hoxhaj explained. “He has declared ambitions to create the ‘Chinese century,’ and this parade is an opportunity to demand global attention for this vision.”
Another topic discussed by Hoxhaj was the close relationship between China and Russia, which has undergone an extraordinary intensification since the start of the war in Ukraine. “Russia, which is almost completely economically and militarily dependent on China, has every reason to join it. This is natural for them,” he stressed. In addition, the participation of Kim Jong Un in the parade, as the leader of North Korea, was not a surprise. “North Korea has a close relationship with China, so the presence of Kim Jong Un is a reflection of the strong relations between the two countries,” Hoxhaj said.
Another important aspect that Hoxhaj emphasized was that Asian countries do not see the war in Ukraine as a global issue, but more as a European issue. “For China, the war in Ukraine is not a global problem. They are focused on expanding their influence and are interested in how this conflict will develop, as this could have an impact on China’s ambitions for Taiwan and the surrounding islands,” he said.
At the end of the discussion, Hoxhaj also commented that US President Donald Trump would like to participate in this parade, in order to meet other leaders and engage in discussions on important geopolitical decisions as an important geopolitical actor. “Trump understands the importance of this meeting and wants to be part of it, especially when it comes to world superpowers,” said Hoxhaj.
