At a time when all international and local media are talking about the island of Sazan, which is said to have been given to the couple Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, is still not aware. At least, this is what he himself stated in a press conference today, where he stated that there is no information that the island has been sold.
Berisha even agreed in principle with the government's action, emphasizing that Albanian legislation allows the granting of properties for 1 euro to strategic investors.
"First of all, to be honest with you, I have no information that we are dealing with a sale. Albanian laws allow the sale of land, plots and lands for 1 euro, as is known, for a certain period. I have no knowledge that the island of Sazan was bought by the Kushner couple or sold by the head of the criminal organization, Edi Rama, personally, I have no knowledge, because Albanian laws do not provide for such a thing," Berisha said.
That is, the leader of the DP, who reacts daily to every action of the government, is not aware of the Sazan Island, which, in addition to being known to all Albanians, has also become headline news in foreign media. Of course, Berisha and the DP are aware of these facts, but have decided not to oppose this project, since it concerns Donald Trump's family.
Perhaps also out of the hope that the US president will overthrow Rama's government or remove his "non-women", the opposition leader appears surprised by the "sale" of the island, and it is one of the rare cases when Sali Berisha has chosen to remain unaware.
To make his position clearer, it is enough to remember that the opposition has never publicly opposed Kushner's project in Sazan. Donald Trump's son-in-law, since January of this year, has received the status of strategic investor in Albania. Even other opposition figures, when asked about this issue, state that "the Democratic Party is not against business."
In this situation, Berisha would seem more sincere if he openly declared that he agrees with giving away the island of Sazan for 1 euro, rather than trying to hide behind contradictory statements. Because, for once, saying it bluntly is less harmful than pretending to know nothing.
