The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has justified the decision of MP Mesila Doda to register as an independent MP, emphasizing that this is related to the fact that she belongs to a political force that has not managed to form a parliamentary group. According to him, Doda's registration as an independent MP is a normal parliamentary procedure.
"Ms. Doda is not a member of the Democratic Party. She is a member of the PDIU and is in the Assembly as a representative of this party. Given that the PDIU has only one member of parliament and has not managed to form a parliamentary group – a group requires at least 7 members of parliament – Ms. Doda has been registered as an independent member of parliament. So, this is a normal parliamentary procedure," said Bardhi.
However, this reasoning by Bardhi seems more like an attempt to justify the failure of the DP by choosing names on the safe list, who after the elections are winning, further reducing the DP group.
First, Mesila Doda herself reacted by emphasizing that the opposition should have a joint parliamentary group. This shows that the MP did not agree with the rest of the opposition to create three parliamentary groups.
Secondly, if Bardhi's explanation were to be believed, then Fatmir Mediu of the Republican Party and Vangjel Dule of the PBDNJ, who also have one MP each, should have been registered as independent MPs, but they cooperate with the DP by forming a parliamentary group, which Mesila Doda does not do.
