Socialist MP Erion Braçe has issued one of the strongest public signals of dissatisfaction within the Socialist Party, implying that the race for the Mayor of Tirana has sparked conflicts and "smearing" among the socialists.
In an interview with Euronews Albania, Braçe spoke openly about his exclusion from a party meeting in unit number 5 in Tirana, although, according to him, he is the MP who has worked in the field, met citizens and received their votes.
"A meeting is currently being held in unit number 5. It is the leader for Tirana together with an MP delegated as political leader, while the MP has not been notified at all," declared Braçe, making it clear that the tensions are not only related to the organization of the party, but to clashes for influence and political control in the capital.
Then, he tried to emphasize the difference between a deputy who is present on the ground and figures who, according to him, are more propagandistic than real on the ground.
"The MP who is 30 meters away, the MP who acts as an MP in the territory, has been announcing for four days that the water pipes are cracked and the water is leaking," said Braçe, indirectly attacking the way the political and administrative organization is run in Tirana.
He also ironized the SP's relationship with the party's old figures, as he recalled the 35th anniversary of the Socialists.
"In a few days, we will receive a medal, those of us who have been in the SP for a long time," said Braçe in clearly ironic tones.
His statements come at a time when voices and internal movements are increasing within the Socialist Party regarding the future of the Municipality of Tirana, while Braça's name has long been rumored as one of the figures who have ambitions to enter the race for the leadership of the capital.
