The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has stated that important developments regarding the country's European integration process are being hidden from the Albanian public.
According to him, the intergovernmental conference scheduled for today has not been held, while he claims that a series of meetings and gatherings on the integration process have been held in Brussels since the beginning of March, without transparency towards the public and the opposition.
Berisha said that in these meetings, according to him, "serious setbacks" in Albania's integration process were discussed and that no consensus was reached on the approval of the IBAR report, an interim assessment document.
He added that the demands placed on Albania within the integration process have increased and that some member states have expressed objections, influencing changes to the report and its demands.
According to Berisha, the planned intergovernmental conference also did not take place, while he accused the government of a lack of transparency and of hiding information from citizens.
He also called on EU member states, the European Commission, and the incoming presidency to make Albania's integration process more transparent to the public.
