The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has addressed the Administrative Court with an official request that court hearings be broadcast live.
In his request, Veliaj argues that the transparency of the trial should be truly guaranteed to the public and not remain merely formal. According to him, the current restriction that only allows physical attendance of the hearings does not meet the standard of transparency required by law.
As an example, he brings the practice of the Constitutional Court of Albania, which has long been broadcasting public hearings live, guaranteeing broader access to judicial processes for citizens. Veliaj emphasizes that this practice should serve as a model for other courts, as live broadcasting is fully compatible with the solemnity and normal development of a judicial process.
According to him, such transparency is also an obligation to the public and to the citizens who have voted for him three times in a row, to learn in real time every fact and truth about him.
