In a meeting with Democrats in Dibër, Sali Berisha focused on the process of electing the leader of the Democratic Party, emphasizing that elections with one candidate are common practice in other countries as well.
He stated that in many cases, influential figures do not enter the race if they are not certain of victory, while emphasizing that each candidate must meet certain criteria to be part of the race.
Referring to Mereme Sela, Berisha said that she received 43 votes in the Durrës district and congratulated her for her participation, but added that to lead the Democrats, other evidence is needed, otherwise the race becomes "ridiculous."
According to him, the Commission that reviews the candidacies has decided that she does not meet the criteria, while also rejecting claims that the DP does not hold genuine elections, defending the "1 member - 1 vote" model as a legitimate process.
