The lawyers of the leader of the Freedom Party have filed a request with the Criminal Court for the replacement of the security measure.
In the request submitted by the lawyers, it is argued that the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has already completed the investigations into Ilir Meta, and consequently, the continuation of the detention measure no longer has a procedural basis.
According to the defense, with the closure of the investigations, there is no longer any possibility that Ilir Meta could tamper with the evidence.
Two days ago, SPAK officially communicated to Ilir Meta the closure of the investigation and the transfer of the file to the court. The former president of the country is accused of three criminal offenses: corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets.
These accusations also aggravated his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, who is under "compulsory appearance" order.
