Condemning the figure of Enver Hoxha without condemning communism as an ideology is not only insufficient, but also very dangerous. The communist dictatorship in Albania was not bloody and destructive simply because of the criminal Enver Hoxha, but because of Marxism-Leninism. It would have been equally bloody and destructive if another communist had taken Enver's place.
And it was the same with Stalin, Mao and hundreds of other Marxists around the world. Whenever Marxism-Leninism has been implemented somewhere, it has always ended in terror and misery. It is not a coincidence or human incompetence. It is the logical consequence of an ideology that rises against freedom and human nature. Marx also said it clearly when he preached violent revolution and the dictatorship of the proletariat: no one will willingly accept to give up private property and consequently his freedom. That is why terror and class war are needed. Terror is not a matter of sadism of communists, but an inevitable necessity of imposing an inhuman ideology.
Every time we condemn Enver Hoxha and ignore Marxism, we contribute to forgetting history and creating fertile ground for the revival of Marxism.
This status was prompted by a long post from an institution that is supposed to deal with condemning communism and does so by condemning Enver Hoxha without even mentioning communism or Marxism once.
It is also inspired by a conversation with a persecuted person who was explaining to me a few days ago that Enver was cruel and had not implemented communism properly. In fact, if he had implemented it even a little better, none of us would be alive today.
