Turkey bans social media for children under 15

Turkey has introduced new regulations on the use of social networks, aiming to increase protection for children and young internet users.

Under the new measures, minors under the age of 15 will not be allowed to register on social media platforms. Companies will be required to implement effective age verification systems to prevent children from accessing these services.

The regulations also require platforms to offer differentiated and tailored services to users over 15 years old, increasing safety and control over content.

As part of the implementation, stronger parental control mechanisms are foreseen, including tools for managing accounts and limiting usage time.

Social media companies will also be required to take measures against deceptive advertising and to reduce online risks.

Meanwhile, in urgent cases related to national security, major platforms will have to comply with content removal orders within one hour.
