A long and challenging night has been marked in the Finiqi area, where several fires, favored by strong winds, have engulfed the villages of Velahovo, Livinë, Ardhasovo, Bistrica and Krongj.
Firefighting teams from the municipalities of Finiq, Delvinë, Konispol and Saranda intervened on the scene, supported by five fire engines, 70 members of the Armed Forces and 20 members of the State Police.
Due to the danger, temporary evacuation of residents in Livina and Ardhasovo has been carried out. Measures have also been taken to provide medical assistance to the elderly.
In the early hours of the morning, an operation was carried out to stop the spread of the fire towards the Bistrica Hydropower Plant, while air intervention is also expected in the area to completely extinguish the flames.
Authorities have announced that, for safety reasons, traffic on the Muzinë-Bistrica road axis will remain restricted until the operations are completed. Forces on the ground are monitoring the situation to prevent the fires from reactivating due to the wind and high temperatures.
