The National Food Authority continues to fail to submit the results and documentation regarding the poisoning of the students of the Security Academy to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office. According to reports, the prosecution has forwarded a previous request to the NFA, but has not yet received a response.
The investigative group seeks to verify whether the institution has previously conducted controls and traceability for food products consumed at the academy, as well as what their results were. Meanwhile, the prosecution is also awaiting the official expert report from the Forensic Medicine to fully clarify the causes of the poisoning.
A day earlier, on May 14, the AKU announced that laboratory tests had detected the presence of Escherichia coli and staphylococcus bacteria in pasta samples taken from the kitchen of the Sauk Security Academy.
"We are informed by the ISUV Reference Laboratory that 8 samples tested have come within the norms and one ready-made pasta sample has resulted non-conforming for a load above the norm of Escherichia coli and B staphylococcus coagulase positive," the NFA announcement said.
Following these findings, the NFA ordered the suspension of the activity of the entity SORI-AL until the legal conditions for cleaning and disinfection of work premises and equipment are met.
56 students of the Security Academy ended up in the Infectious Diseases Department of the University Hospital of Tirana due to contaminated food poisoning. Following the investigation, the police arrested a 52-year-old cook and a 23-year-old technologist of the company that supplied the food. The company administrator has been declared wanted, while another technologist is being investigated at large.
