The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has reacted after the submission of 148 signatures of party delegates, who have requested the calling of an extraordinary LDK Assembly and his dismissal from the position of chairman.
Through a public reaction, Abdixhiku announced that, in accordance with the LDK statute and the will of one third of the delegates, he has authorized the party's secretary general to immediately initiate procedures for organizing the extraordinary Assembly.
He stressed that no democratic process within the party will be avoided and that the decision on his political future should be made through LDK mechanisms.
"LDK has been and must remain the home of democracy. I will not avoid any democratic process, I will not run away from any vote and I will not hold any office against the will of the majority," declared Abdixhiku.
The leader of the LDK also announced that he will cease engagement in negotiations for the formation of new Kosovo institutions, as according to him it is not serious to continue talks on behalf of the party, while his mandate to represent the LDK has been put into question.
"This initiative comes at a very critical moment for us as a party and for the country. It comes during talks on the formation of institutions, when we should have neither time nor energy for other interests, except for the creation of state institutions," said Abdixhiku.
His decision to suspend involvement in the negotiations comes at a time when political parties in Kosovo are holding discussions on the creation of new institutions.
