On March 1, 1945, the so-called Special Trial began in Tirana, which lasted until April 13 of that year. In 31 sessions, 60 nationalists accused of war crimes were "tried" and convicted.
The balance of the decisions was severe: 17 people were sentenced to execution, 8 to life imprisonment and the others to various sentences of deprivation of liberty. Among those executed were well-known figures of the time such as Bahri Omari, Kolë Tromara, Aqif Përmeti, Ismail Golemi, etc.
At the center of this process was the trial panel, composed of 9 members: Koçi Xoxe (who was also the president of the court and deputy prime minister), Hysni Kapo, Beqir Balluku, Hajdar Aranitasi, Gaqo Boboshtica, Medar Shtylla, Faik Shehu, Halim Budo (judge) and Gaqo Floqi.
The Prosecutor General in this process was Bedri Spahiu.
The historical irony would emerge years later: Koçi Xoxe was sentenced to death by firing squad by a military court, where the prosecutor for the accusation was Bedri Spahiu. Later, Bedri Spahiu himself was declared an enemy and sentenced to prison and exile by a similar process of the communist system.
