Amid the Covid 19 pandemic and at the height of the night of May 17, 2020, the Government and Municipality of Tirana demolished the National Theater.
The symbol of art, culture, and history of Tirana and all of Albania, built during the Italian occupation of the country, was defended by activists, those present in the building, actors, and the opposition. And yet he demolished them.
Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama has published some images from the construction work on the new building in the center of Tirana.
"The construction site of the New National Theater, where work is being done every day to give life to a building that will be another impressive architectural work of Tirana and an icon of art and culture right in the heart of the capital," Rama writes on his Facebook account.
The construction of a new building, on the same site as the old one, was opposed by groups of artists and activists, as well as by the opposition.
