The director of the Albanian Post branch in Durrës, Elisabeta Mataj, has been removed from her position following suspicions of irregularities in the administration of the institution's funds.
According to sources, it is suspected that an amount of around 700 thousand euros is missing from the subsidiary's funds, which is suspected to have been embezzled. However, this amount and the specific responsibility for the incident have not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
Mataj was appointed head of the Durrës Post branch in October 2025, following the departure of the previous head, Etleva Budini, who won the parliamentary mandate in the May 11 parliamentary elections, where she competed on open lists.
Meanwhile, it is learned that the head of the finance sector at this subsidiary, Valbona Hoti Duni, has also resigned.
The Albanian Post announced earlier that, during an internal audit at its Durrës branch, irregularities were found in the administration of funds related to payment services. The institution stated that it has taken administrative measures against the responsible employees and has referred the case to the Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.
