Ankara is ready to play a mediating role between Iran and the United States to reduce tensions in the region, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday after a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
According to a statement from the president's press office, the two leaders discussed the rising military tensions in the region and stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation to maintain stability.
Erdogan reiterated that Turkey is ready to serve as a bridge between Tehran and Washington, emphasizing diplomacy as the only path to a solution.
For his part, Pezeshkian said that Iran pursues a policy based on dialogue and mutual respect, within the framework of international law, rejecting threats and the use of force.
He added that any diplomatic process needs mutual trust and the cessation of threatening and war-inciting actions in the region.
The statements come after President Donald Trump said a few days ago that a large US military fleet is moving towards Iran, warning that "time is running out" for a deal between Tehran and the US.
