US President Donald Trump has given Hamas a deadline of “three to four days” to respond to his 20-point peace plan for Gaza. “It will be a very sad end” if Hamas rejects the deal, Trump told reporters outside the White House.
The plan includes a cessation of hostilities, the return of Israeli hostages and the creation of an international “Peace Board” to administer Gaza, which would include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. According to a response from the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Hamas is considering the White House proposal “responsibly.”
The document also envisions a "credible path to Palestinian self-determination and statehood" if conditions are met, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stressed that Israel will "strongly oppose" the idea.
Trump - who announced the plan alongside Netanyahu - warned that if Hamas does not accept it, he gives Israel "full support to do what needs to be done."
