US President Donald Trump has caused strong international reactions after publishing on social media a map of Venezuela accompanied by the US flag and the inscription "51st State".
The post was published as Trump was traveling to China for an important summit, bringing back attention to his previous statements about the possibility of a special status for Venezuela within the United States.
His move comes just a day after Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, declared that her country has never considered the possibility of becoming part of the US, clearly emphasizing the Latin American state's sovereignty.
According to reports, Trump had previously stated to American media that the idea of integrating Venezuela as a federal state of the US was being considered, linking this to the strategic and economic importance of the country, which possesses large oil reserves.
