US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized NATO allies, calling them "cowards" in a post published on the Truth Social platform.
Trump stated that NATO member countries have not shown a willingness to engage in actions that would help ensure the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes for global oil trade.
In his post, he writes: "Without the US, NATO is a paper tiger! They didn't want to join the fight to stop a nuclear-armed Iran."
He further added that, according to him, after the end of military operations, the allies are complaining about high oil prices, but are not willing to contribute to resolving the situation.
“Now that the war has been won militarily, with very little risk to them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but they don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the sole reason for high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. Cowards, and we will remember!” he writes.
His statements are expected to spark new debates on the role of NATO and transatlantic relations, especially at a sensitive moment for global energy security.
