Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh has announced the death of the country's army chief of staff and several senior officials after a tragic accident while returning from an official visit to Turkey.
In a post on the X platform, Dbeibeh said on Tuesday that he had received the news "with deep pain and sorrow," confirming the loss of Lieutenant General Mohammad al-Haddad and members of his delegation.
Among the victims, in addition to al-Haddad, are the chief of staff of the ground forces, the head of the military industry authority, an advisor to the army chief, and a photographer from the press office.
The prime minister said the incident had occurred during their return from the Turkish capital, Ankara, without providing further details on the circumstances of the accident.
Describing this as a great loss for the country and the armed forces, Dbeibeh said that Libya has lost men who served the homeland with "sincerity, discipline and national devotion," while expressing condolences to the families of the victims, their colleagues in the army and the wider Libyan public.
Meanwhile, Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated earlier that the remains of a private plane traveling to Libya and that had taken off from Ankara, with the Libyan army chief on board, have been found in Ankara's Haymana district. /trt world/
