A serious incident occurred today in Istanbul, where a prosecutor shot his ex-wife, who was performing her duties as a judge in a court session.
The incident occurred at the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals, when the judge was kicked in the leg by her ex-husband. She was immediately taken to hospital and is receiving medical treatment; initial reports indicate that her condition is stable. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while security forces surrounded the courthouse shortly after noon local time.
British media outlet Metro.co.uk has drawn a comparison with a similar incident in Albania, where judge Astrit Kalaja was shot dead while performing his duty in the courtroom.
Kalaja was handling a property case when someone opened fire on him. The judge, who had served for three decades in the judiciary, was rushed to a Tirana hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
