Israel has carried out fresh air strikes in southern Gaza after its military accused Hamas of attacking Israeli soldiers. The Palestinian group has called the accusations "false and baseless."
According to the Civil Defense Agency, at least 11 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli shelling, including at a school housing civilians displaced by the war.
Meanwhile, diplomatic sources report that international mediators are urgently trying to prevent a resumption of full-scale war. According to Al Jazeera, which is reporting from Amman due to its ban on Israel and the West Bank, Tel Aviv has notified Washington in advance of the attacks, but without seeking approval.
In recent hours, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been holding consultations with senior security officials about the next steps - whether to continue the attacks or temporarily halt them. Talks are also underway between Israeli and American authorities on the next stages of the agreement, as 16 bodies of Israeli hostages are still being held in Gaza.
Since the conflict began two years ago, almost 70,000 Palestinians have been killed, the majority civilians, while the risk of a return to war remains high, despite diplomatic efforts to avert it.
