Iran has executed a man convicted of spying for Israel's intelligence agency, the Iranian judiciary announced on October 19. The sentence is the latest in a series of recent executions, as tensions between Iran and Israel have intensified following a 12-day period of clashes in June this year.
"The execution of this spy... was carried out in Qom prison after the Supreme Court confirmed and rejected his request for amnesty," Kazem Mousavi, the chief judge of Qom province, said, according to the Iranian judiciary website, Mizan Online.
The identity of the man who was hanged on Saturday in the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran, has not been made public. Iranian authorities said the convicted man had begun contacts with Israeli intelligence in October 2023 and was arrested in January-February 2024.
Investigators said the suspect admitted to cooperating with the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, and had transmitted confidential information online.
