An explosion heard in Doha, Qatar, in the last hour is an assassination attempt against a Hamas official, an Israeli official told Axios journalist Barak Ravid.
Witnesses told Reuters news agency that several explosions were heard in the city. Smoke was seen rising over the Katara district of the capital, an eyewitness said.
The Israeli military says it "launched an attack targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization."
"Prior to the attack, measures were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions and additional intelligence," she added.
