On the online platform Truth Social, the US president claims that Israel has already accepted his terms for a deal that would bring the Israeli hostages home and end the war in Gaza, saying that "it's time for Hamas to accept it too."
This post appears to confirm reports that the US has conveyed to the Israelis a new ceasefire proposal that would quickly end the war.
“I have warned Hamas of the consequences of non-compliance,” Trump wrote. “This is my final warning, there will be no more!”
The American president, as recently as last month, has promised with his usual pomposity an end to the war. But his declarations have not materialized in a ceasefire or in facilitating the free flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population suffering under a harsh Israeli blockade.
The Trump administration has supplied Israel with billions of dollars in weapons and rejected international efforts to recognize a Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, White House envoy Steve Witkoff has conveyed to Hamas a proposal through Israeli activist Gershon Baskin, for the release of all 48 Israeli hostages in exchange for a ceasefire and the release of 2,500–3,000 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
After the ceasefire is declared, negotiations will begin immediately on the terms for ending the war – including Israel's demands for Hamas' disarmament and Hamas' demands for the complete and final withdrawal of the Israeli military from the Gaza Strip.
The proposal emphasized that if Hamas responds to the initiative, US President Donald Trump will actively engage in ending the war and that the ceasefire will continue as long as negotiations are underway on the terms of ending the conflict.
An Israeli official said the proposal to Hamas also included a warning message: if the group does not respond, the alternative will be a large-scale Israeli military operation in Gaza.
