890 people were arrested in London during a protest held yesterday in support of the Palestine Action group, which is banned in the United Kingdom.
The Metropolitan Police in the capital announced that 857 people were arrested under the Terrorism Act for supporting the group during Saturday's demonstration, while a further 33 were arrested for other crimes, including assaulting police officers.
The Palestine Action group was declared a terrorist group on July 5, after MPs overwhelmingly voted in favor of the measure proposed by former Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. This made any expression of support for the group illegal in the United Kingdom.
The decision to declare the group a terrorist group came after an incident on June 20, when two Voyager aircraft suffered damage worth around £7 million at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
