At least six people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire that ended a six-week war between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that "Israeli enemy airstrikes in southern Lebanon resulted in the martyrdom of six citizens and the injury of two others."
According to authorities, the victims were recorded in several areas: two in Wadi al-Hujair, two in Touline and one each in Srifa and Yater.
Meanwhile, UNIFIL announced that an Indonesian peacekeeper has died in hospital from wounds sustained during an attack on its base on March 29. According to preliminary UN investigations, the soldier was hit by an Israeli tank shell.
Separately, the Israeli military said it had killed six people in the southern town of Bint Jbeil, identifying them as Hezbollah fighters. It is not yet clear whether these casualties match those reported by the Lebanese side.
Clashes in the area have been particularly fierce in the days leading up to the April 17 ceasefire. According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, since the start of the conflict on March 2, Israeli attacks have caused a total of 2,491 casualties in the country.
