The Iranian military said on Wednesday it had targeted the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with cruise missiles, state media reported.
Press TV published a video showing armed forces firing missiles at the US aircraft carrier, while the state news agency IRNA quoted naval officials describing the operation.
According to IRNA, the commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, said that the movements of the "hostile" aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln were being constantly monitored and that it would be targeted as soon as it came within range of Iranian missile systems.
There was no confirmation from the US.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bayer Ghalibaf, warned the United States on Monday not to "test" the Iranians' determination to defend their country, after US media reported sending additional troops to the Middle East.
“We are closely monitoring all US movements in the region, especially the deployment of troops,” Ghalibaf said in a post on X. “Do not test our resolve to defend our country,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Navy announced that it had fired cruise missiles at the US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, warning that more attacks would follow.
The statement said the missiles forced the aircraft carrier, which is stationed in the Gulf region, to "change position."
"We are constantly monitoring" the movements of the Abraham Lincoln, warned the commander of the Iranian Navy, Admiral Shahram Irani, noting that "as soon as this enemy fleet enters the range of our missile systems, it will be the target of strong attacks by the Iranian Navy."
