Israeli airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon have killed at least six people and wounded several others, according to reports from Lebanon's National News Agency.
These attacks are considered a violation of the ceasefire brokered by the United States last month, increasing tensions in the region.
In the town of Zellaya, in the western Bekaa, an airstrike hit a residential building, killing four people, including the head of the municipal council, Ali Qassem Ahmad, and three members of his family. Three other people were wounded in the same attack. Meanwhile, in the south of the country, the village of Mayfadoun was shelled with artillery and hit by Israeli warplanes and drones, causing two more casualties.
The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah said it responded to Israeli attacks by targeting a gathering of Israeli soldiers. Clashes between the parties have continued in several areas of southern Lebanon, including the Tyre district.
Israeli authorities issued forced evacuation orders for residents of 12 villages in southern Lebanon, asking them to stay at least one kilometer away from their homes. Most of these villages are located north of the Litani River, an area not currently under Israeli military occupation. Israel claims it is responding to ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, but has not provided clear evidence for this claim.
The fighting escalated on March 2, after Hezbollah fired rockets into Israeli territory. Since then, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed some 2,700 people and forced more than 1.2 million people to flee their homes.
