British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ruled out the possibility of resigning over the controversy surrounding the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.
"Nothing will distract me from my mission to serve our country," he declared during the weekly debate in the House of Commons. This is the second time in a week that Starmer has responded to criticism in parliament.
The controversy concerns the appointment of Mandelson, who has previously been criticised for making inaccurate statements about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. According to reports in The Guardian, he was granted security clearance for the post in January 2025, despite objections from the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, former senior civil servant Ollie Robbins has testified in parliament about pressure exerted during the appointment process. Starmer has said that this evidence refutes the allegations against him.
