Two activists who participated in an aid flotilla to Gaza have been sent to Israel for questioning, the Israeli foreign ministry announced.
According to her, two of the flotilla's leaders, Thiago Ávila from Brazil and Saif Abu Keshek from Spain, "will be transferred for questioning by law enforcement authorities."
The ministry added that both will receive consular visits from their countries' representatives in Israel.
The Global Sumud flotilla, consisting of 22 ships, was stopped on Wednesday evening near the coast of Crete while trying to transport aid to Gaza.
Almost all of the activists — about 175 people who set off from Italy on Monday — have been released after being detained by Israeli forces, with the exception of the two leaders. Flotilla organizers have called their detention illegal and have called on international governments to pressure them for their immediate release.
Meanwhile, three Australian activists have begun a hunger strike in Crete after they say they were left there by Israeli authorities after the flotilla was stopped. They also claim they were mistreated during two days of detention on an Israeli ship.
