Iran's new leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued a new message, using harsh rhetoric against the United States, as the process of a possible new agreement between Washington and Tehran remains uncertain.
In a post, Khamenei described the United States as "paper tigers," claiming that "they cannot even defend their bases," casting doubt, he said, on their ability to guarantee the security of their allies in the region.
These statements followed a warning that Ayatollah Khamenei had addressed to the United States, on the occasion of the National Day of the Persian Gulf.
He had spoken of a "new chapter" for the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Tehran would secure the region and eliminate "enemy abuses."
Also, Iran's Supreme Religious Leader noted that the presence of Americans is the most important reason for insecurity in the Middle East, emphasizing that stability can only be achieved by removing them from the region.
