Barcelona officially kicks off the new La Liga season tonight, with the reigning champions facing Elche at the Martinez Valero Stadium. The match will take place at 9:30 PM and will be the first league match for Hansi Flick's team, after the opening match against Athletic Bilbao was postponed.
The Catalans start the season with the objective of winning a third consecutive title, while expectations are even greater after significant advances during the summer. Barcelona aims to be protagonists not only in the championship, but also in the Champions League.
Flick, however, does not have the entire group in ideal condition. Several players have had little time to prepare after international commitments, while Rodri is not expected to be ready for this match.
In the offensive department, eyes will be on Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, while Karim Adeyemi is also expected to have an important role. According to the possible formation published by “AS”, Flick is expected to take the field with an attacking trio consisting of Yamal, Raphinha and Adeyemi.
Elche, on the other hand, are looking to surprise the champions in front of their home fans. The Martinez Valero Stadium is expected to be filled with over 30,000 fans, creating a fiery atmosphere for the team's home debut.
Barcelona has a favorable balance in direct confrontations, with 36 wins in 57 matches, while Elche has triumphed on nine occasions and 12 meetings have ended in a draw.
However, Flick demands maximum concentration from the first minute. For Barcelona, the objective is clear, to start the season with a win and give the first signal in the defense of the champion's crown.
