The prisons and the police have been playing ping-pong with each other, for the special permission that should be given to the life-sentenced prisoner so that he could leave his cell for a few hours for his mother's funeral.
This morning, the General Directorate of Prisons sent an email to the State Police asking them to secure the outer perimeter in order to escort the life-sentenced prisoner.
The email also requested information on whether there was any evidence of any possible retaliation against Çapja, due to the problems he has with leaders of criminal groups in the city.
The police have not officially responded, claiming that it is up to the prisons to decide, but have taken the forces out onto the streets. So, by passing the ball, the institutions are admitting that they cannot guarantee the life of the convict in a city like Elbasan, which seems to continue to be under the rule of gangs.
The funeral was scheduled for 2:00 PM, but Ardian Çapja's family has notified the prisons that they can postpone the time if they decide to accompany him. But they have not received a response.
Çapja was sentenced to life imprisonment as the mastermind behind the murder of Nezir and Gentian Beqiri, father and son, in revenge, while he is known as a sworn opponent of Suel Çela, currently wanted by SPAK. Ardian Çapja has survived several mafia assassination attempts.
