All 55 UEFA member associations have voted in favor of boycotting the World Cup if FIFA goes ahead with its plan to partially privatize football's biggest competition.
According to reports, the decision was made during a virtual meeting held on Thursday, where European federations discussed FIFA president Gianni Infantino's project to create a new company that would manage the commercial rights of the World Cup and allow private investors to buy shares.
Sources close to the discussions say that UEFA's position is unanimous: A boycott will remain a concrete option as long as FIFA's plan to privatize the World Cup is not withdrawn.
If the decision were implemented, the World Cup would take place without any of the 55 European national teams, a scenario that would constitute the biggest sporting and financial blow in the competition's history.
The clash between UEFA and FIFA comes after president Gianni Infantino proposed the creation of a new company where private investors would be able to buy a stake in major FIFA competitions, including the World Cup.
