US President Donald Trump has brought attention back to his claims about the territorial expansion of the United States, after reposting on the "Social Truth" platform an image depicting Venezuela as the "51st state" of the US.
The published image shows a map of northern South America, where the territory of Venezuela is colored in the colors of the American flag, while above it is written "The 51st State."
The post comes months after Trump publicly suggested the possibility of Venezuela becoming part of the United States. This is not the first time the US president has published such material, having previously distributed modified maps related to US territorial ambitions.
In January, Trump released an image showing Venezuela, Greenland and Canada under the American flag. Since returning to the White House, he has spoken several times about the possibility of annexing Greenland and about Canada as a possible 51st state of the United States.
However, the case of Venezuela is seen as more complicated due to political developments and American interventions in the country.
According to reports, relations between Washington and Caracas have been significantly strained, while the US has been involved in political developments in Venezuela following the arrest of former President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, who were transferred to the US to face trial.
