US President Donald Trump has said that Iran is seeking to reach a deal with the United States, while Washington is considering whether to take further military action against Tehran.
In a phone interview with NewsNation, Trump was asked about his recent statements that he was considering the possibility of "annihilating" Iran. "We'll see what happens," the US president replied.
Asked what he expects from Tehran before making a decision, Trump said Iran is currently interested in a deal with the US.
"Right now, they want to make a deal," Trump said, adding that, according to him, Iran "is losing in every aspect," both financially and militarily.
"If the deal is not the right deal, then I wouldn't even consider it. But right now, they want to make a deal, because they are losing on every front," the US president declared.
Trump also spoke about contacts with the Houthi group in Yemen, saying the US is in talks with the group and that they too "would like to see if we can reach a deal."
Trump's statements come as the US-Iran conflict enters its seventh month. The US president has recently said he hopes the war is nearing an end, while at the same time warning that a decision to launch another major attack on Iran is approaching.
According to recent reports, tensions continue in the Strait of Hormuz, while the possibility of a new diplomatic channel between Washington and Tehran remains in focus.
