Britain's King Charles III has warned the leaders of the largest Artificial Intelligence companies about the dangers the technology could pose if it falls into the wrong hands, calling for strong security measures before it is too late.
During a meeting in Scotland with executives and representatives of Nvidia, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic and other companies in the sector, the British monarch said that the rapid development of AI must be accompanied by guarantees that the technology remains under human control.
Charles stressed that even experts and the companies developing these technologies are increasingly warning about the dangerous capabilities that advanced AI systems could acquire. According to him, there is an urgency to assess the existential risks and the possibility that the technology could be used in ways with catastrophic consequences.
The king urged industry leaders that technological advancement should not be the sole goal, but that the development of AI should be done in a way that serves humanity, communities, and the environment.
The meeting comes at a time when the international debate over the security of Artificial Intelligence has intensified, as industry leaders and researchers have called for stronger security and control measures for increasingly powerful systems.
