After weeks of reports and public concerns about the safety of several buildings in the "Durrës Marina" project, the National Inspectorate for Territorial Protection itself has officially admitted that two of the buildings have suffered significant structural damage.
In an official statement, IKMT announced that, by order of the Chief Inspector, a special inspection group was established, which included IKMT inspectors, representatives of the Territorial Development Agency, IMT of the Municipality of Durres, and specialists from the Construction Institute.
Verifications were carried out for two buildings in areas A02 and A04 of the “Durrës Marina” project, currently in the external arrangements phase. According to the topographic report of the Construction Institute, building 02 has suffered a decrease of 28 centimeters, while building 04 a decrease of 18 centimeters.
It is precisely these findings that have forced IKMT to officially request the implementing company to immediately take measures for technical reinforcement projects that should guarantee the sustainability of the structures.
Although the institution tries to present the situation as manageable and under supervision, the statement constitutes the first public admission that in one of the largest and most promoted projects in the country there are serious problems related to the stability of the facilities.
The fact that reinforcement interventions are required while the facilities are still under construction raises strong questions about the technical control, implementation standards, and long-term security of the investment that has been advertised as one of the most ambitious projects on the Albanian coast.
