US removes Abdul Jashar, the Albanian who led the "Albanian Community"

Abu Katede Albani, also known as Abdul Jashari, is no longer under US sanctions. He is known as the leader of the "Albanian Community" group, composed mainly of Albanian fighters and active for years in Syria.

Its removal from the sanctions regime comes as part of a shift in US policy towards Syria, after the US State Department removed the country from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. The move was announced earlier this year and was pending review by the US Congress.

The inclusion of a country on the US list of countries that support terrorism is accompanied by a series of restrictions, including bans or limitations on US foreign aid, exports of defense equipment, and certain financial transactions.

Abu Katede Albani, originally from Skopje, has led the "Albanian Community" for the past decade, a group composed mainly of Albanians originating from Kosovo and North Macedonia.

The group became known during the conflict in Syria, while its members have also been reported as part of sniper units that have operated in Syrian territory.
