Real Madrid seem to have started to think about the future of Luka Modric, even though the Croatian midfielder continues to be active and perform at good levels with Milan.
According to Defensa Central, the club are considering two possible routes for the Croatian legend once he decides to end his playing career. Modric, who spent more than a decade in Madrid and became one of the most important figures in the club's modern history, has left open the possibility of a return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
In a recent interview with AS, Modric said he would like to return to Madrid one day, but only if he could have a concrete and important role at the club. The Croatian does not want his return to be purely ceremonial due to his status as one of Real Madrid's legends.
Spanish journalist Tomas Roncero, quoted by "Defensa Central", is convinced that Modric's return to Madrid is only a matter of time.
"I understood that he will definitely return to Madrid and I am convinced that he does not want to return as an ambassador, but wants to feel important," Roncero declared.
According to him, the two positions that would best suit Modric are a role on a coach's technical staff or a position in the club's sports management.
"I see him joining a coach's technical staff or moving into sports management, because he is a student of football and the leagues. He watches all the games and knows the players," Roncero added.
It is precisely his knowledge and passion for football that could make Modric an important figure for Real Madrid even after his playing career has ended. The Croatian has maintained a keen interest in international football throughout the years, closely following various championships and players.
Modric's relationship with Real Madrid goes much deeper than that of a former player with the club. He spent more than a decade at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning numerous trophies and becoming one of the most important midfielders in the club's history.
