Students in Serbia have announced that they will continue their protests tonight, following the tense events during the night of August 13 and 14. Through social networks, they have shared the location and schedule of the rallies, calling for the unity of citizens across the country.
In the capital Belgrade, the protest is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. Earlier, mass protests under the slogan "Serbia, wake up" took place in about 30 cities, with violent clashes between protesters and police, mainly near the headquarters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
For the first time, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, including the elite “Cobra” unit, also participated in the clashes. Seven military personnel were injured, four of them seriously.
The students stressed that the protest was sparked by violence in Vrbas, where protesters were attacked by supporters and members of the Serbian Progressive Party, armed with fireworks, stones, frozen water bottles and other dangerous tools.
