Kosovo authorities have announced that a prisoner at the Mitrovica Detention Center escaped on the afternoon of August 7.
Kosovo Police said it was Gjorgje Radomirovic, while the Kosovo Correctional Service said he was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months in prison - of which he had 3 years and 7 months left.
"Today, four officials, the director of the Mitrovica Detention Center, a senior supervisor and two correctional officers, have been suspended from work due to the escape of prisoner GJ.R. from the Mitrovica Detention Center," the Kosovo Correctional Service said.
The fugitive had been working in the detention center's workshop at the time he escaped.
"Also, he was on the list of convicts who could benefit from parole," the Correctional Service said, adding that it has launched an internal investigation into the incident and will take the necessary measures to address the issue.
The police, meanwhile, said they are continuing the search for the fugitives and have set up static checkpoints throughout the northern part of the country, inhabited by a Serb majority.
