The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague have decided to extend the detention of former President Hashim Thaçi.
Along with him, Bashkim Smakaj, Isni Kilaj and Fadil Fazliu will also remain in detention, facing charges of criminal offenses against the administration of justice, along with former Minister of Justice Hajredin Kuçi.
According to the preliminary procedure judge's decision, the detention measure was deemed "necessary and proportionate." The court argues that there is still a well-founded suspicion that Thaçi has committed the criminal offenses he is accused of and that there is a risk of escape or interference in the judicial process.
The Specialist Chambers will continue to prosecute the accused in the framework of investigations into alleged crimes committed during and after the war in Kosovo.
