The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, has resigned from his post this Wednesday, media in Kosovo reported. The news comes after the party's poor results in the recent local elections, which fell short of the PDK's intended objectives.
Krasniqi's resignation paves the way for the organization of a new party electoral convention. After the Presidency meeting, the former chairman is expected to hold a press conference to explain the reasons for this decision.
In the last local elections, PDK won six municipalities: Prizren, Ferizaj, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Kaçanik and Hani i Elezit.
Meanwhile, the party has lost Drenas and Mitrovica, results that are considered unsatisfactory for the current leadership.
Memli Krasniqi took over the leadership of the PDK on July 3, 2021, winning the majority of the delegates' votes at the party's electoral convention. He received 469 votes in favor and only 7 against, being the only candidate for this position. Krasniqi came to the head of the PDK after the resignation of Kadri Veseli on November 5, 2020, following the confirmation of the indictment by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, while Enver Hoxhaj had served as the leader during the transition period.
